What we deliver

IT services built for clinical environments

We understand healthcare workflows, EMR requirements, and the compliance demands on BC clinics and practices.

EMR-Friendly Networking

QoS configuration prioritizing EMR traffic. Segmented VLANs for staff, guest, and medical devices. Optimized for clinical application performance.

Patient Data Protection

Encryption at rest and in transit, DLP policies preventing accidental sharing of patient records, and access controls limiting data to authorized staff only.

MFA for All Staff

Multi-factor authentication on every account — clinical, admin, and billing staff. Conditional Access blocking sign-ins from unmanaged or non-compliant devices.

Encrypted Backup & Recovery

Daily encrypted backup for covered systems and data, with scheduled restore testing. We confirm which EMR data is protected by SOS and which remains the EMR vendor's responsibility, then document recovery objectives to reduce downtime.

DPA & Compliance Support

Data Processing Agreement included as standard. We provide technical safeguard documentation, access-log retention guidance, and incident-response materials that support your privacy program. Your clinic remains responsible for its legal and professional obligations.

Priority Helpdesk — Front Desk Uptime

Fast helpdesk response with priority for front-desk and clinical systems. P1 24/7 critical response for EMR and check-in system outages that affect patient care.

Common questions

IT for healthcare & clinics — frequently asked questions

What IT compliance requirements do BC healthcare clinics need to meet?

Private clinics in BC are generally governed by BC's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Section 34 requires reasonable security arrangements for personal information in an organization's custody or control. The safeguards needed depend on the clinic, data, systems, contracts, and risks; other laws may also apply. SOS provides technical safeguards and documentation, not legal advice.

Can you support our EMR (electronic medical records) system?

Yes — we coordinate with EMR vendors used by BC clinics, including OSCAR and Accuro environments. We can optimize networking, segment appropriate devices, troubleshoot connectivity, and confirm backup responsibilities. Application-level support, integrations, and database access depend on the EMR vendor agreement and the access available to your clinic.

What happens if our clinic has a data breach?

A suspected breach should be contained, documented, and assessed promptly under the laws and agreements that apply to the clinic. BC PIPA does not currently impose mandatory breach notification, although notification may still be appropriate; PIPEDA has reporting and notification requirements when it applies and a breach creates a real risk of significant harm. The BC Physician Privacy Toolkit includes breach guidance. SOS can assist with technical containment, evidence preservation, investigation support, and remediation while the clinic obtains privacy or legal advice.

How do you handle IT support for after-hours clinic emergencies?

For critical system outages affecting patient care — such as EMR unavailability or complete network failure — we provide priority response outside business hours. Monitoring can identify many infrastructure issues early, while clinic staff can report application or workflow failures directly. We define P1 scenarios, escalation contacts, and response SLAs during onboarding so expectations are documented.
